CSX Employees Walk to Benefit Sunshine Foundation

Published: Monday, April 6, 2009

The 11th Annual Walk for Sunshine raised more than $16,000 and drew more than 300 participants to benefit the Sunshine Foundation, which serves people with mental and physical disabilities. Employees Sherry Moon and Ken Gilsdorf (accompanied by his wife, Theresa) represented CSX on the 3-mile Wabash Cannonball rail trail through the Monclova, Ohio countryside on a day that, appropriate to the event name, was presided over with an abundance of blue skies and sunshine.

The event included a walking clinic led by Jeff Alt, whose 1997 walk of the Appalachian Trail inspired the event. Said Douglas Sibernaler, Sunshine Director of Development added, "We really appreciate all the support and assistance over the years from Sherry Moon and CSX to make this walkathon such a great event."

More than one million students give up on school each year — and 50 percent of those drop outs happen in just 12 percent of schools. CSX is doing our part to combat America’s drop out crisis, by serving as a national leadership sponsor to City Year, an education-focused nonprofit organization that partners with public schools to help keep students in school and on track to graduate.
