I am happy to report that the 40th Anniversary Earth Day Cleanup, held on Saturday, April 24th, was a tremendous success! By the end of the day over 2,500 volunteers had removed a total of 25 tons of trash from our beloved Anacostia River. This year 38% of the bagged trash was recyclable. Some of the interesting items collected included 2 mattress springs, 1 bus seat, 50 one-gallon paint buckets, 4 automobile hoods and 305 tires!

Mattress springs, a bus seat, paint buckets, automobile hoods, and tires were among the items collected by volunteers.

This year's Earth Day Event would not have been possible without CSX's help. We were honored to have the company as our Platinum Level Sponsor.

I thank CSX for helping to ensure that our River continues on its exciting path of recovery from generations of abuse and neglect. We look forward to working with CSX again in the near future!
