On May 15, CSX employees, family members and friends teamed up with City Year to "give back" to the community with a day of service. Over 100 people from CSX, Collinwood, OH and City Year joined the effort spearheaded by Terry Turner, CSX Terminal Superintendent, Denesha Greene, City Year Safety Ambassador and myself.

Volunteers cut grass, picked up debris, tree limbs and more.

Many dedicated workers donated their day off to clean eight city lots — they cut grass, picked up debris, tree limbs and more — filling a 40 yard dumpster. The atmosphere around the effort to beautify the neighborhoods of E. 147th, 148th and 149th Streets was so contagious that some of the area residents came out to help.

CSX furnished high visibility vests, safety glasses and work gloves. Mike Casadonte, Haz Mat supervisor provided lunch and two local television stations covered the event.

CSX supports and assists community growth and is open to new ideas on how to give back to the community… our community… our CSX home.
