Eggs on Billboards

Location: Dayton, OH and Mobile, AL

In June 2004 CSX launched its public safety campaign featuring outdoor billboards placed near railroad crossings to promote safety on and around railroad tracks. The campaign was intended to raise awareness about railroad crossing safety as well as gain greater media attention to further promote the safety message.

Stark white boards were posted at high traffic railroad crossings with copy reading "Cars Hitting Trains."

Street Teams were then hired to throw eggs at the boards to demonstrate what happens when a car hits a train. The events took place in two local markets, Dayton, Ohio and Mobile, Alabama; they received national attention from the press, including an article in the Wall Street Journal.
