On January 21, Monroe County Sheriff Deputy Dan Lyon was honored for his long standing commitment to the Operation Lifesaver program with a breakfast attended by several of his fellow law enforcement officers and others. Robert Rohauer, CSX Community Affairs and Safety Officer, presented Deputy Lyon with an Operation Lifesaver Education award highlighting Dan’s achievements in reaching nearly 100,000 school age children in the Fairport school district.

Because of programs such as Operation Lifesaver, there have been no railroad trespassing incidents involving Fairport School District students for many years.

“The Operation Lifesaver program is truly only as good as it’s volunteers,” stated Rohauer at the presentation of the award, “and Dan you justly epitomize the highest level of commitment to the program through your efforts in sharing our message of being safe on or near railroad tracks and equipment.”

Dan also received a letter from NYOL Executive Director Evan Eisenhandler and NY State Assembly-member David Koon, each recognizing the excellent work Deputy Lyon has demonstrated in keeping the children on the east side of Rochester safe.

Jon G. Hunter, Superintendent of Fairport Schools was also quick to point out that because of programs such as Operation Lifesaver, and in particular the hard work of its volunteers including Deputy Lyon, there have been no railroad trespassing incidents involving Fairport School District students for many years.

Rohauer added, “The partnership with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and The Fairport School District, exemplifies the commitment CSX has to work hand-in-hand with the communities we serve in educating the public on how to make smart decisions when it comes to being safe around the railroad.”
