On December 23rd, CSX Transportation presented a surprise $4,000 donation to the Decherd, Tennessee's fire department to assist in the city's purchase of new emergency First Responder equipment. Fire Chief Harold Perry received the unexpected news just two weeks after the fire department partnered with CSX on a recent response call.

The city will use the donation to purchase three Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) to help the fire department facilitate assistance to Decherd residents in need.

After their work was done, a CSX representative visited the fire hall to thank the team for their help, and learned of their equipment needs. As a measure of CSX's gratitude, Lee Miller, claims manager for CSX Transportation, with the support of Jane Covington, resident vice president of Public Affairs for CSX, presented the check to Chief Perry and the fire department. Miller noted that CSX enjoys working alongside local agencies.

The city will use the donation to purchase three Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) to help the fire department facilitate assistance to Decherd residents in need. “These are a vital part in assisting a patient that is in cardiac arrest, and we are very thankful that we now have four vehicles equipped with AEDs to help save lives in the event of heart attacks,” Perry said.

CSX is guided by a policy of ensuring the safety of employees, customers, and the communities they serve, and works relentlessly to prevent injuries and accidents. The Decherd Fire Department's primary goal is to be the best in meeting the needs of their community in fire protection, rescue, and assisting other emergency agencies when needed. The donation will help both teams partner and further their goals of safety and serving communities.
