2008 Crossing Incident Update

Published: Sunday, July 6, 2008 at 9:18 AM EDT

[there were 527 highway/rail crashes in 2003, 500 in 2004, 484 in 2005, 477 in 2006, and 449 in 2007.]

In the United States, approximately every 2 hours a collision occurs between a train and vehicle or a train and a pedestrian.

Through its efforts in public safety education, CSX has been able to reduce the number of incidents at highway rail intersections on CSX lines over the past five years.

These efforts include working with local Public Projects and Engineering Departments to reduce the number of crossings.

We also partner with community law enforcement agencies to support our public safety message.
