Employees from CSX served up a tasty Fourth of July cookout at Jacksonville, Florida’s Ronald McDonald House, which offers lodging and other support services for families with critically ill, chronically ill or seriously injured children being treated in Jacksonville.
The occasion also marked their 10th anniversary of service to the Ronald McDonald House. For those 10 years, on the third Wednesday of each month, the CSX group plans, shops for and cooks an evening meal for the families in residence.
The Fourth of July menu included brats, hamburgers and corn on the cob from the grill; potato salad and baked beans; hot dogs and macaroni and cheese for the children. Most was made from scratch and served to about 75 hungry people — parents and children in residence. CSX provides the funding for the food and allows the time off to prepare it.
The volunteers enjoy their service to Ronald McDonald House and have experienced many touching moments with the families. “It is really gratifying to know that we’re doing something special for them and that CSX is making a difference in this community,” said Alex Werdenberg, who does the advance meal planning, shopping and grill work for the team.
