At the recent dedication of the new Center for Economic Education at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ), CSX pledged its support for bringing economic education and financial literacy to public schools in the North Florida area.
Through its partnership with the Florida Council on Economic Education (FCEE), CSX is not only investing charitable resources to sponsor a series of teacher workshops through FSCJ, but is taking an active leadership role with the Florida Council on Economic Education. John Hart, CSX AVP of Transportation Finance has been elected to the FCEE Board of Directors and will also serve on the organization’s Advocacy Council.
The CSX sponsored workshops are open to teachers in Duval, Nassau, Baker, Putnam, St. Johns and Clay counties and will help train them to better understand and teach economic concepts and financial literacy in the school systems.
“In light of all that has happened in the financial arena in recent years, I can’t think of a more important subject to teach in our schools,” said Mr. Hart. Until recently, economics was not considered a priority in the schools and the FSCJ workshops have already proven to be popular with teachers.
