Resident families, volunteers and staff at the Ronald McDonald House in Jacksonville enjoyed a holiday dinner complete with songs of the season on Wednesday, Dec. 8. The special evening was provided courtesy of CSX Intermodal and the CSX Chorus.
Intermodal employees formed "Caring Cooks" as volunteers nine years ago. This group provides Wednesday night dinner once a month at the Ronald McDonald House, typically serving about 80 people each night. Six years ago, they took on the responsibility of providing the holiday celebration meal, serving year-round volunteers, staff, sick children in residence and their families. This year, they cooked for and served 150 people.
For the first time, the CSX Chorus, led by Aaron Tison, joined the Caring Cooks for the event. They provided a full program of holiday songs culminating in a sing-along with the residents and volunteers.
"The chorus did a beautiful job," said CSX's Frank Langley, coordinator of the Caring Cooks. "It was very inspiring to watch all of the kids sitting in rows and enthusiastically singing along."
