CSX and Action for Healthy Kids have partnered on School Grants for Healthy Kids, which are grants available to schools to support increasing physical activity and promoting nutrition initiatives.
School Grants for Healthy Kids range from $500 to $2,500 and provide in-school assistance, funding for physical education and active recess, refurbishing of play spaces, classroom energizers and brain breaks, support for walking and running clubs, and before- and after-school programs that introduce students to the value of an active lifestyle.
Since 2013, almost $1 million in grants have been awarded to 779 schools in 13 states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

In 2013, CSX joined forces with Action for Healthy Kids to increase physical activity among kids in school. At a time when half of U.S. students do not receive physical activity in an average week, CSX's support helps fill a gap in the national resources provided to schools for wellness initiatives.
Since 2013, CSX-supported School Grants for Healthy Kids have helped 1,074 schools implement health and wellness initiatives, impacting more than 546,000 students. The grants are designed to increase students' physical activity to 30 minutes per day in school and influence them to be active for an additional 30 minutes per day outside of school; advance the school nutrition environment through access to healthy foods, provide information to students/parents on the importance of physical activity and healthy eating, work toward healthy schools certification through the USDA’s HealthierUS Schools Challenge and engage CSX employees and parents of students to support physical activity at school and at home.
