CSX Supports Nationwide Initiative to Recruit and Retain Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resource Sciences Teachers

CSX is supporting the recruitment and retention of agriculture, food and natural resource sciences teachers by sponsoring the National Teach Ag Campaign. This sponsorship is part of their more than $1,000,000 commitment to a variety of agricultural education and FFA programs through the National FFA Foundation.

The National Teach Ag Campaign is an initiative to raise awareness of career opportunities in agricultural education, encourage others to consider a career as an agriculture teacher, retain current agriculture teachers, and celebrate the positive contributions that agriculture teachers make in their schools and communities.

CSX is a leading supplier of rail-based freight transportation in North America.

"Our commitment to growing local communities, protecting the environment and service learning is paramount to what we do at CSX," said Tori Kaplan, Assistant Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at CSX. "Through our support of the National Teach Ag Campaign we are helping to ensure that we have enough high quality agriscience teachers to educate our future leaders."

This is the third year CSX has supported agricultural education and FFA through the National FFA Foundation. "CSX values the important role of agriscience teachers," said Todd Greenwood, Director of Corporate Contributions at the National FFA Foundation. "CSX’s investment in the National Teach Ag Campaign is vital to addressing the critical nationwide shortage of agriscience teachers, especially now, when enrollment in secondary agriscience courses and FFA membership is at an all time high."

CSX’s support will be used to fund existing initiatives such as the Teach Ag Ambassador program, Teach Ag grants, National Teach Ag Day, Teach Ag workshops and agriculture teacher recruitment and retention resource creation and distribution.

CSX, based in Jacksonville, Fla., is one of the nation’s leading transportation companies, providing rail, intermodal and rail-to-truck transload services. The company's transportation network spans approximately 21,000 miles, with service to 23 eastern states, the District of Columbia and two Canadian provinces. CSX’s network connects more than 240 short line railroads and more than 70 ocean, river, and lake ports. More information about CSX Corporation and its subsidiaries is available at www.csx.com. The National Teach Ag Campaign is an initiative of the National Council for Agricultural Education led by the National Association of Agricultural Educators and is sponsored by the CHS Foundation and CSX as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. It is designed to raise awareness of career opportunities in agricultural education, encourage others to consider a career as an agriculture teacher, retain current agriculture teachers and celebrate the positive contributions that agriculture teachers make in their schools and communities. For more about the National Teach Ag Campaign’s efforts to recruit and retain quality agriculture teachers visit www.naae.org/teachag.

The National FFA Foundation builds partnerships with industry, education, government, other foundations and individuals to secure financial resources that recognize FFA member achievements, develop student leaders and support the future of agriculture education. Governed by a 19-member board of trustees comprised of educators, business leaders, individual donors and FFA alumni, the foundation is a separately-registered nonprofit organization. About 82 percent of all sponsorship dollars received by the foundation support FFA members and agricultural education opportunities.
