CSX Celebrates Ben Franklin High School Success

CSX was on hand to celebrate with more than 700 attendees at Ben Franklin High School’s 2nd Annual BENFEST event. BENFEST is a free festival that celebrates and supports the connections that exist in the communities of Brooklyn & Curtis Bay located in Baltimore, Maryland. The event featured a combination of games, music, activities, food and community resources.

Between 2011 and 2015, Ben Franklin High School moved from one of the city’s lowest performing high schools to one of Baltimore’s top choice high schools.

CSX is a proud partner of Ben Franklin High School in many ways, including a mentorship program between students and CSX employees at the Chesapeake Bay Coal Piers. Students are even invited to visit CSX facilities to learn more about the business.

Lorenzo Jolley, CSX Mentor Team Leader, attended the BENFEST event. “We at CSX take our community involvement very seriously and we will be here for guidance and support,” he said. “We’ve been here since 1882 and don’t plan to leave anytime soon.”

At the BENFEST event, CSX employees handed out cupcakes and stickers to allow the community to show their support.

“Through programs and services provided by our partners, we have been building Benjamin Franklin High School into a vital community resource in Brooklyn and Curtis Bay,” said Dante de Tablan, Executive Director, Ben Franklin Center for Community Schools.
