CSX and David Ragan help keep NASCAR green


On April 11th, 2014, CSX partnered with NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver David Ragan to help keep Darlington Raceway green, as part of the NASCAR Race to Green™ program. CSX was the primary sponsor for David's #34 racecar at the Bojangles' Southern 500 in Darlington, held on April 12th.

David visited with fans before the race to talk about recycling and tree planting. He even handed out recycling bags to make properly disposing of fans' bottles and cans easier. David then passed out and autographed Hero Cards, which also had messaging to reinforce the importance of recycling.

Participating in NASCAR Race to Green™ was a natural fit for CSX. Running from March 29-April 29, the program is engaging fans in a social conversation about environmentally friendly initiatives on and off the racetrack. The action CSX and David took at Darlington Raceway was featured on motorsport.com, speedwaydigest.com, shorttracks.us, NBC Georgia (WMGT) and jayski.com, a NASCAR site operated by ESPN. Photos of David with fans also spread throughout social media.

In addition to its green initiatives, CSX's Play It Safe messaging was featured prominently at the racetrack on a trackside billboard. Over 70,000 fans in attendance and 5.9 million fans watching on TV saw the 40' x 16' billboard.
