FFA Convention & Service Day in Indianapolis

Zionsville, IN —

In mid-October, CSX proudly supported the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis. In addition to hosting a booth at the FFA Career Show, CSX employees partnered with FFA students in a day of service at Maplelawn Farmstead.

Santa Train 2011

11/19/2011 in Shelby, KY to Kingsport, TN —

Since 1943, the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce, CSX Transportation (and its predecessors) and Food City have co-sponsored the Santa Train. The annual 110-mile rail 'Christmas parade' from Shelby, Kentucky, to Kingsport, Tennessee, is an Appalachian tradition that ushers in the holiday season in the region.

CSX-City Year Service Day in Downtown Norfolk

On November 12, volunteers from CSX, the community and City Year came together to improve downtown Norfolk. Volunteers were able to plant 20 trees, hundreds of shrubs & plants, install sod and mulch garden areas.

CSX-City Year Service Day on Norwood Boulevard

On October 10, volunteers from CSX, the community and City Year came together to plant and landscape at various locations along Norwood Boulevard. This wide serpentine boulevard was conceived in 1912 as a centerpiece for the newly planned Norwood neighborhood.

On October 8, volunteers with CSX, City Year, Parks & People, TreeBaltimore and neighborhood groups painted large exterior murals, built benches and garden beds, painted hallways inside the school, planted 12 trees, created an outdoor classroom area, and weeded and spruced up Margaret Brent Elementary and Middle School and the surrounding neighborhood.

CSX-City Year Service Day at North Baltimore Memorial Park

Volunteers with CSX and City Year worked to restore North Baltimore Memorial Park on Saturday, September 17, 2011. The park is a recreational site that serves the entire community. Work included mulching and installing curbing for an outdoor playground; painting the exterior of the Boy Scout House; painting playground equipment; painting graphics on the basketball court and murals on shelter houses; and constructing mural benches and picnic tables.

CSX-City Year Service Day at Faith Family Future Center

50 volunteers came together to improve Family Future Center and Veterans Memorial Park. Enhancements to the two sites included building a community garden space with planter beds, pathways and fencing; building 4 mural benches; painting indoor wall murals and walls in the gym and recreation center; and planting 5 trees. Improvements will continue with the future construction of a gazebo at Veterans Memorial Park.

CSX-City Year & Trees for Tracks Service Day at Solo Gibbs Park

Volunteers built benches and tables, painted murals, renovated the playground areas, improved the park's outdoor spaces, mulched the existing landscape and planted thirty large trees. Since the late 1700s a free African-American community has lived, worked and worshipped near the historic park.
