CSX, City Year Complete Comprehensive Revitalization of the Sanctuary on 8th Street

In an ongoing effort to incorporate volunteerism and citizenship into the day-to-day operation of CSX, new management trainees were given the opportunity to assist in renovations to the historic building, which was once a U.S. post office, and now houses a safe-haven for children in inner city Jacksonville.

175 Volunteers with CSX and City Year Improve, Beautify Downtown Norfolk

CSX and City Year joined the City of Norfolk and the Freemason Street Area Association in bringing together 175 volunteers to plant 20 trees and thousands of plants throughout the Downtown Norfolk Area. The event was the 17th of 20 service days the railway will organize by the end of the year in communities throughout its system.

CSX Brings Together Two of the Nation's Top Youth Organizations at the National FFA Convention

As sponsor of the FFA National Days of Service, CSX brought together City Year and FFA members for a day of service projects working alongside CSX employee volunteers to revitalize all four acres of Maplelawn Farmstead in Zionsville. The event, which was part of the 84th Annual National FFA Convention, secured prominent news stories on WRTC-TV6 (ABC) Indianapolis and the Brownfield Agricultural News National Radio Network.

Birmingham Mayor Joins CSX & City Year Volunteers to Improve Norwood Boulevard

In an event that made the Birmingham News and WBRC-TV6 (Fox), 75 volunteers revitalized the Norwood Boulevard walking mall, including planting and landscaping around Norwood Elementary School, Norwood House and the surrounding neighborhood. Improvements will continue with the future installation of exercise stations along the 1.8 mile Boulevard which runs through the community.

CSX, City Year Bring Together 100 Volunteers to Revitalize Baltimore School

In an event covered by two television stations, two online news sites and the AP, volunteers with CSX, City Year, Parks and People, TreeBaltimore and neighborhood groups painted large exterior murals, built benches and garden beds, painted hallways inside the school, planted trees, created an outdoor classroom area, and weeded and spruced up Margaret Brent Elementary and Middle School and the surrounding neighborhood.

More than 100 Volunteers from CSX & City Year to Renew Park & Boy Scout House

Volunteers with CSX and City Year restored North Baltimore Memorial Park by mulching and installing curbing for an outdoor playground; painting the exterior of the Boy Scout House; painting playground equipment; painting graphics on the basketball court and murals on shelter houses; and constructing mural benches and picnic tables in a recreational site that serves the entire community.

CSX & City Year Bring Major Improvements to Faith Family Future Center & Veterans Memorial Park

In an event covered by the Times of Northwest Indiana, CSX and City Year brought together 50 volunteers to improve Family Future Center and Veterans Memorial Park. Enhancements to the two sites included building a community garden space with planter beds, pathways and fencing; building 4 mural benches; painting indoor wall murals and walls in the gym and recreation center; and planting 5 trees. Improvements will continue with the future construction of a gazebo at Veterans Memorial Park.

Back to School Special: Myrtle Grove Elementary Students Return to School Revitalized by Volunteers

Myrtle Grove Elementary students were surprised to return to a school with new landscaping provided by CSX volunteers and City Year. The volunteers removed overgrown shrubs, replacing them with butterfly plants, perennials and other native plants, and constructed six benches to make an outdoor reading space.

CSX Volunteers Team Up with City Year to Completely Transform Pittsburgh Ball Fields

National Public Lands Day at Gillies Creek Park

An estimated 100 volunteers completed the service on National Public Lands Day, a nationwide volunteer effort to enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. Students from Virginia Union University joined the day of service as part of their school’s community outreach program.

CSX & City Year Complete Dramatic Transformation of Riverdale Community Center

The organizations installed fencing, created a picnic area for seniors, constructed dugouts and backstops for the ball fields, painted portable murals for the interior of the center, and planted 44 trees.
