In Hagerstown, Maryland, Children's Village has established the ambitious goal of providing free life safety education to all second grade students in Washington County. Thanks to a $7,500 grant from CSX, the organization will get much closer to realizing this achievement.

Nearly 2000 second graders from Washington County attend the center throughout the school year. Family outreach is estimated at 10,000. An annual open house draws another 2,000 citizens to the center. The campus also serves as home base for juvenile fire-setting intervention and other community-based life safety programs.

Kids leave Children's Village with the knowledge and skills training to help them deal with fire, injuries and other emergencies they may someday encounter at any age. Said Rochelle Morrell, Executive Director of Children's Village, "As a major partner, CSX can take pride in the many accomplishments and success stories linked to Children's Village."
