CSX Donates Computers to Community Connections

Thanks to CSX and its employees, Jacksonville’s Community Connections now has 30 refurbished computers for use by children in after-school programs.

Today, kids ages nine to 17 across the city have access to newly upgraded computers for their homework, special projects and summer programs.

Christina Stallings, CSX technical director of information security, is an avid supporter of Community Connections. She recently asked the director of the non-profit what he thought they could use to help the children. He told her computers, but ones that were capable of handling day-to-day schoolwork and special projects.

Stallings contacted Tony Culler, CSX manager of information technology, who secured the hardware stored in a CSX warehouse in Jacksonville. At the recommendation of a colleague, Stallings contacted Microsoft to request donation of current software. CSX employees loaded the basic operating system and provided licensing through Microsoft for Office 2007.

“Community Connections is set up all over Jacksonville primarily where families don’t have the wherewithal to provide these educational resources,” said Stallings. “We’re delighted that we, through CSX, could make this equipment donation possible.”
