Giving Guidelines

At CSX, our philosophy on giving is an extension of our core values, with people and their safety at the forefront. Each year, CSX provides more than $6 million in financial assistance to local and national agencies and organizations that are equally committed to making a difference.

Focus Areas for CSX Giving & Support

At CSX, we have structured our giving guidelines around the following key areas of focus:

Personal Safety Education

When children feel safe they are able to learn, grow and reach their full potential. In an effort to help keep kids safe, CSX will support non-profit organizations and school programs that:

• Educate children and their parents on issues of personal safety
• Help keep children safe on the internet
• Teach railroad safety to children, teens and adults
• Provide safe havens that keep children and adults safe from abuse

Community Safety

In emergency situations, communities must be able to respond in a timely and effective manner and first responders are key to making this happen. CSX is committed to maintaining, promoting and restoring safety by supporting:

• Safety, disaster, high alert and hazardous materials training
• Equipment requirements of first responders
• Projects and activities that keep communities safe, such as a fence around a neighborhood playground

Environment

CSX is committed to protecting the environment both through its business practices and its philanthropy. We support programs that:

• Protect air, land and water resources in the communities in which we operate
• Preserve natural resources
• Teach environmental stewardship to children and adults

Support Methods

Through financial contributions at the local level, major sponsorship of national organizations and the volunteer time our employees give so freely to those in need, CSX demonstrates its commitment to philanthropic outreach.

Corporate Giving

CSX is proud to support local nonprofit organizations through cash and non-cash donations as well as through our people. If the goals of your organization support our Focus Areas, we welcome your funding requests at any time. Employee Volunteerism

CSX takes great pride in the work that its employees do in their communities. From helping kids learn to read, to rebuilding local parks and community centers, the people of CSX really do make a difference. We have a web-based matching system that lets employees learn about volunteer opportunities and allows them to track the time they have donated, so that the company can recognize the personal time they have committed to helping others. Dollars for Doers

This valuable program provides funding to eligible community organizations and schools where CSX employees are active volunteers. Dollars for Doers is CSX's way of supporting essential services in the communities where our employees live and work. For every hour an employee volunteers at an eligible non-profit organization, CSX will donate $10 to an eligible 501(c)(3) organization of the employee's choice. Employees must volunteer at least 15 hours and can receive a Dollars for Doers contribution for up to 40 hours of volunteer work per year - for a total contribution of up to a $400 per year!

Eligibility & Restrictions

CSX awards grants to organizations that have been approved by the IRS as 501(c)(3) charities and government institutions such as schools and libraries. We target our support to specific projects or programs that enhance the scope of services offered by an organization. Our grants are seldom used to support operating costs or capital campaigns. Preference is also given to organizations that have a broad base of funding and employee involvement.

CSX generally does not award grants to:

• Organizations that do not have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
• Individuals
• Religious organizations unless the project benefits the community, such as a soup kitchen that is housed in a church
• Political candidates or lobbying organizations
• Organizations with a limited constituency, such as fraternal, labor or veteran's groups
• Endowments or foundations
• Travel by groups or individuals
• National conferences
• Sponsorships or advertising
• Anti-business groups
• Team sponsorships or athletic scholarships
• Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sexual orientation or gender
