Moving What Matters, Protecting our Environment

Even though we believe that rail remains the most environmentally friendly, efficient means of land transportation, we’re committed to continually improving our environmental impact and making the communities we serve cleaner and greener. We were named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index in 2012 for our environmental initiatives, including our commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 6-8 percent by 2020 and our "Trees for Tracks" program, where we will plant 21,000 trees (one for every mile of track) by 2013.
