CSX Helps Keep Charles River Clean in 2009
$5,000 Donation

Event Date: Monday, June 1, 2009
Location: Framingham, MA

The funds will be used to support the Charles River Clean Up Boat. The river flows through a major metropolitan area and a great deal of trash flows into it from people, boats, and storm drains. Since the river is dammed at its Boston Harbor mouth, the trash accumulates unless it is removed.

We operate a 20' aluminum boat, 4 days a week to pick up the floating trash and marine debris. $5000 will support the boat's operation for about 1 month. We operate almost entirely with volunteers; the only exception is that our boat drivers are each paid a small stipend, as per our insurance company's requirement. We have no shortage of volunteers; our greatest need is for funds to cover the driver stipends and for boat maintenance and fuel.
