Middle Tyger Community Center (MTCC) is a non-profit 501C-3 organization located in Lyman, SC that brings together community members and business leaders who care about the future of families in the Upstate. MTCC's CARE: Adolescent Family Life program serves the children of adolescent mothers in Spartanburg County School Districts Two and Five. MTCC works closely with the local high school and school nurses. We provide parenting classes, parent educators, case managers, and a registered nurse to serve our adolescent mothers. 90% percent of our adolescent mothers are underprivileged and do not have the resources available to purchase infant car seats for their newborns. This grant will provide the opportunity for the MTCC staff to provide an infant car seat as needed. According to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA), car crashes are the leading killer of children 14 years and younger. MTCC has trained child passenger safety technicians who are available to educate the parents on proper installation of their child's car seat. In addition to serving adolescent mothers and their children, MTCC also serves as a car seat safety check point for the community.
