Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazine named CSX Corporation one of the country’s 100 Best Corporate Citizens, the only Class I railroad to be included on the list. “CSX is proud to join the ranks of our nation’s best corporate citizens,” said Michael J. Ward, CSX chairman, president, and CEO.
It is better to give than to receive. “I always have enjoyed volunteering,” says Jennifer Maurer, a CSX employee in Selkirk who truly understands that concept.
More than one million students give up on school each year — and 50 percent of those drop outs happen in just 12 percent of schools. CSX is doing our part to combat America’s drop out crisis, by serving as a national leadership sponsor to City Year, an education-focused nonprofit organization that partners with public schools to help keep students in school and on track to graduate.
Safe Place is the first step to help for any youth in crisis or at risk. This community collaboration program, operated by youth shelters and youth serving agencies makes it possible for any youth to access help at locations displaying the Safe Place sign.
CSX and FFA share a common interest in leadership development, environmental and natural resources conservation and safety education. CSX will sponsor chapter leadership programs in nine states, will assist in developing program curriculum for FFA members, and will participate in a variety of initiatives.
CSX is proud to be a National Leadership Sponsor of City Year, supporting the organization’s efforts to keep kids in school and on track to graduate. This animated video introduces City Yea’s Long-Term Impact strategy, a plan to ensure that 80% of students in the high-need, public schools City Year serves are able to fulfill the potential they’re born with.
After decades, FFA is still inspiring young people to apply their skills and interests to the field of agriculture thanks in part to the support of CSX Corporation.
Hear from the volunteers of the CSX-City Year Service Day at Francis Scott Key School in Locust Point. The volunteers helped revitalize this neighborhood school with new murals, landscaping, improved drainage and bench repair. Some volunteers also planted trees at the school and nearby Fort McHenry & Latrobe Park.
For the fifth time in four years, CSX & City Year joined for a large-scale day of service in Baltimore, this time transforming the Francis Scott Key School. Volunteers painted murals inside & outside the school, painted the entire second floor of the school, built outdoor trash can holders & flower beds, mulched the playground, repaired benches and planted 65 trees on the school grounds & in neighboring Latrobe Park.
This summer, CSX contributed $5,000 to Project Hope of Cleveland, designated for Project Hope’s “A Health Care Safety Net” project for the Community. CSX is a regular contributor and strong supporter of the organization.
Flora D. Crittenden Middle School is the math, science and technology magnet school for the city of Newport News. 90 volunteers from CSX, City Year and the Newport News community will come together to provide the school with new picnic tables, an outdoor classroom, a vegetable & butterfly garden and new murals.
