Santa Train 2008

Published: Friday, November 21, 2008 at 12:11 PM EST
Event Date: Saturday, November 22, 2008 thru Monday, November 24, 2008
Location: Shelby, KY to Kingsport, TN

Since 1943, the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce, CSX Transportation (and its predecessors) and Food City have co-sponsored the Santa Train. The annual 110-mile rail 'Christmas parade' from Shelby, Kentucky, to Kingsport, Tennessee, is an Appalachian tradition that ushers in the holiday season in the region. Supported by many contributors, more than 15 tons of toys, food and other gifts are tossed by Santa and friends to generations of followers. On arrival in Kingsport, Santa departs the train and mounts the top ladder of a sparkling red fire engine to anchor Kingsport's own Yuletide Parade.
